Dear Editor,
On behalf of the Michigan Speech Language and Hearing Association (MSHA), we would like to repair what we feel are significant errors that appeared in the June 2002 Division 11 Newsletter article, “It Takes a Nation: Part III” (Authors J. Mullins, K. Moore, R. Kraai and L. Wortman-Lowe). There are two issues discussed under the subheading “The Michigan Position” that we feel demand further clarification (i.e., the authors’ statements in regards to the actions of the state association concerning the use of Speech-Language Assistants [SLPAs] and the Michigan Department of Education’s development of policies regarding the use of SLPAs).
