As a speech-language pathologist, audiologist, or speech-language and hearing scientist involved in administration and/or supervision, you may be very interested to hear that ASHA has officially begun a registration program for speech-language pathology assistants. Whether this new program affects you as an administrator and/or supervisor will depend on several factors: the use of support personnel in your place of employment, either now or in the future; your level of interest in meeting voluntary ASHA standards for quality education and training of assistants; your state regulations of support personnel; and, your own current or anticipated need for the further extension of speech and language services to patients/clients.
