During the 1997 Annual Convention, Division 11 sponsored a well-attended Short Course targeting various aspects and levels of the supervision process. It was my pleasure to present the section addressing supervision of graduate student interns in medical environments. The following are highlights from this presentation. Information was gathered via a survey that was offered on the Internet through a Dysphagia Listserv and Grand-rounds Listserv. The survey was also sent to members of the Michigan Society of Hospital Directors of Communicative Disorders Programs, as well as attendees of the 1997 Leadership Conference who indicated an interest in participating in this project. The survey requested information regarding which techniques and tools were working well for supervisors (and which were not), supervisor training issues, supervisor competencies, and intern competencies. Anecdotal data was encouraged. Approximately 50 surveys were completed.
