Happy Summer, everyone. School is either coming to an end in your area or about to come to an end, and there are graduations and parties galore. We begin the wonderful days of summer—vacations, celebrations, and hopefully time to sit back and relax a bit. I wish that for all of you … and for that matter, for me, too!
Just a few things to share with you this time around:
Now, a bit of update from my perspective. I had the pleasure of representing the Division at the Board of Division Coordinators meeting at the ASHA National Office in March. It was truly a wonderful experience and a professional honor for me. For the first time, I participated in an advocacy activity at the national level and visited the ASHA legislative office. It was a most impressive experience. The staff at the ASHA Capitol Hill office assist in preparing you for visits with Congressional staff. I met with a legislative assistant for Senator Graham, for Senator Nelson, and for Representative Deutsch (I’m a Florida girl), and we primarily discussed IDEA legislation and particular wording that best provides for the needs of the children we serve. I came away from the experience inspired and ready to take on the world. I look forward to more experiences in this same vein and encourage all of you to do the same —in your towns, regions, states, and at the national level.
